Battling cancer with my son, Hayes, has changed my life. I would not be the person I am today without enduring this beastly experience. There isn’t a day I do not think about his cancer and how fortunate he is to be here. After undergoing extensive chemotherapy these last 9 months, in addition to various surgeries, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy--I know Hayes is going to come out on top. He’s doing amazingly, and has broken records thus far.
Today, I can’t believe chemotherapy is over. When we were leaving the hospital, I was overcome with joy and could not stop the tears of relief from falling. Although we have not finished the race in this marathon, I feel we are rounding the last corner. The finish line is just ahead. However, there are long-term side effects from the harsh treatment he received at an early age, so we need continued prayers to combat these potentially fatal consequences.
Funding research is the only key we have to curing childhood cancer, so please consider donating this holiday season.
Donations may be made online at: www.chla.org/NANT. Gifts may also be sent to: NANT Operations Center Children's Hospital Los Angeles, 4650 Sunset Blvd., #54, Los Angeles, CA 90027.
We need to prioritize finding treatments with less damaging side effects on children, so they can pursue the life they have dreamed of having.
I saw another cancer survivor post my favorite quote from Winnie the Pooh during this whole ordeal: “There is something you must always remember: you are braver than you believe, smarter than you think and stronger than you seem,”—because only the bravest and strongest of warriors were given this battle.” Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Please continue to keep Hayes in your daily prayers for complete healing. Thank you all! We are so thankful for you this Thanksgiving!
