What’s the main difference between wellness care and sick care? Wellness care seeks to activate the natural healing ability, not by adding something to the system but by removing anything that might interfere with normal function. Wellness care trusts that the body knows what to do if nothing else interferes with it.
Sick care, on the other hand, seeks to treat a symptom by adding something from the outside such as a medication, surgery, or procedure. For example, if a patient has high blood pressure, the standard medical approach would be to prescribe a drug that lowers blood pressure and then ask the patient to take the medication indefinitely.
While this approach may effectively lower the blood pressure, it ignores the underlying cause. When masking the root cause this way, you run the risk of suffering further side effects and complicating your recovery. Many people in this situation end up suffering multiple new medical issues caused by the drug itself.
Whether it’s a nutritional issue, faulty nervous system control, or a manifestation of stress, prescription drugs do not cure or solve the root cause of your issue. Commiting to a lifestyle that revolves around wellness care rather than sick care can lift the veil of confusion and help you get to the bottom of things. For example, the Mayo Clinic lists 10 ways to control high blood pressure with lifestyle choices rather than with medication.
With traditional "sick care," you might feel like life is a foggy, dreamlike state where events simply happen to you. With wellness care, you learn to dictate your narrative and become the author of your book. Telling your own story empowers and motivates you to be more proactive in every area of your life.
Most people have no idea what goes into their bodies on a daily basis. Instead, they rely on the food and drug administration (FDA) to tell them what is acceptable and unacceptable. As children, most of us couldn’t wait to break away from our parents and claim our independence; yet as adults, we continue to rely on strangers to make life or death decisions on our behalf. This makes no sense.
A living human being does not need to preserve the body with chemicals. With all the preservatives people are consuming on a daily basis, you might start to think the opposite. The reality is that additives and preservatives are harmful to humans. Don’t compromise your body and your health. Take a step back and examine how you're eating, how much exercise you get, and what kinds of substances you consume.
Make your decisions by becoming educated and doing research. Of course, pharmaceutical companies are going to advise that drug X necessary or drug Y will improve your condition, but this is because they prioritize running a profit. Sadly, the sicker you are, the happier they are. Don’t let these corporations profit from your pain. For example, food additives exist to save money at the expense of the public's health.
